Instructions for your audition

If auditioning for Failure: A Love Story only

Prepare a one-minute monologue and a short song a cappella (classic musical theatre, jazz standard, pre-1960’s pop song or folk tunes are encouraged). If you play an instrument, please bring it if you can, and share a brief song; a piano will be available as well. We’re looking to cast at least one person who can play an accompanying instrument like piano (preferred) or guitar but are interested in other instruments as well.

If auditioning to be considered for both Into the Woods and Failure: A Love Story, or Into the Woods only

Important: actors will only be cast in one.

  • Prepare a one-minute monologue and two contrasting 16-bar musical theatre selections (no Pop or Rock please).
  • Bring sheet music photocopied double-sided (if more than two pages) and hole-punched in a binder for the pianist, Emily Gantt.
  • If your cut is only two pages, prepare the music so no page turns are needed.
  • Students are welcome to email Emily in advance to confirm music cuts and markings are clear.
  • Auditionees are required to bring their physical binder (no tablets, etc.) of music to the audition.
  • No acappella singing please.

You will not be able to be cast in both productions as they overlap.

Make sure to fill out the online form and sign up for an audition slot. Please note the rehearsal schedule when you sign up. All conflicts must be listed.

A note: via the audition form if you agree to understudy or to play any role, backing out of that decision once casting is posted is considered unprofessional. The director is making decisions about the whole production when they are casting and that includes understudies. Questions, please ask the director.

If a student has an unavoidable conflict with all available audition appointments, please email the director of the production/s you plan to audition for directly to be considered for an accommodation.

GPA Policy

WWU Theatre is an educational experience that prioritizes academic integrity success, all students auditioning or involved must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 to participate. GPA will be checked at time of audition/application.
