Dance Statement on Anti-Racism and Resources

The Dance Program at Western is actively engaged in the work to dismantle the systemic racism that is prevalent in the dance field. We acknowledge the white-washing of dance history and the unjust promotion of euro-centric forms in college dance programs nationwide.

We are taking steps to ensure our curriculum promotes anti-racist systems of learning and offers counter-narratives to the inaccurate depiction of ownership and legacy in dance.

We are committed to "revising the canon of dance history to recognize the contributions of POC" words by Brenda Dixon Gottschild, an anti-racist cultural worker. As educators, we recognize the work we have to do.

We know that it is our job to not stand by in silence, but to use our place of privilege and power to actively contribute to equity and a just world for all.
