All WWU students are welcome and encouraged to join an ensemble. Auditions are held each year before Fall term, and placement is determined regardless of major or year in school. In addition to auditioned ensembles, we offer two choirs and one pep band that can be joined without prior placement. Students who miss Fall Ensemble Auditions should email the appropriate area coordinator or director to inquire about an audition. Students who are interested in a music major or minor should visit our Entrance Audition page.
All auditions will be scheduled through our online Audition Form found under each Audition Requirements page above. The deadline for online sign-up is September 20, 2019, at 5:00 pm. At this time, a physical copy of the audition list will be posted on the ensemble bulletin boards located on lower level 2 (LL2) of the Performing Arts Center (PA/PAC). Please see the campus map to locate our building and PAC floor plan maps for locating your audition room.
Students may change their audition time or cancel their audition by contacting Lee Anne Frahn. After the online deadline, audition changes must be made on the physical audition sign-up sheets posted on the ensemble bulletin boards located on lower level 2 (LL2) of the Performing Arts Center (PA/PAC). Please use the campus map to locate our building, and PAC Floor map to locate your audition room and bulletin boards.
Except for Viking Band, all students must register for ensembles to participate. Students will not be able to register for auditioned ensembles until after Ensemble Audition results have been posted. Students may register for University Treble and Tenor/Bass choirs at any time through Web4U. Vocal Majors and Minors should see below for more information. Viking Pep Band is the only exception as it is not offered as a course.
Practice rooms are available to all WWU students and the community 5:00 pm and after on weekdays and all day on weekends. Those enrolled in an ensemble have priority access to practice rooms along with majors and minors from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm during weekdays. Practice rooms are located on Lower level 1 & 2 (LL1, LL2) in the Performing Arts Center.
We cannot guarantee instrument rentals for ensemble auditions. We offer low-cost instrumental rentals ($50-45 per quarter) through our instrumental library. For more information regarding instrumental rentals please email the instrumental library. The music department also checks out lockers on a space-available basis to students participating in ensembles. Contact the main music office (PAC 27) for more information at 360-650-3310.
