Panamanian-American clarinetist David Bissell is a passionate and versatile musician whose interests span the avant-garde, orchestral, chamber music, pop, theater, and jazz.

A Kirkland, WA native, he has appeared with the Bellevue City Opera Ballet, Seattle Symphony’s Tiny Tots Concert Series, Philharmonia Northwest, Bellingham Symphony Orchestra, Theater Arts Guild, and the Northwest Mahler Festival, among others.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Bissell has performed alongside local and international artists in the premieres of new works in collaboration with Seattle Art Museum, New Works for Percussion, Ballet Bellevue, and many more. Over the past two years, he has performed and arranged music with Western Winds, a student wind quintet focused on engaging in community outreach.

He recently led a collaboration between Western Winds and 5th Inversion (Western’s faculty wind quintet), arranging and producing a remotely recorded multi-track video project.

Currently, Mr. Bissell plays with the COW Ensemble, performing the works of WWU student composers. He is a recipient of The CFPA Dean’s Scholarship, the WWU Woodwind Scholarship, the Ada and Don Walter Endowment, and the Music Department Scholarship.

Bissell is currently studying clarinet with Erika Block and pursuing degrees in both music education and clarinet performance. Past influential teachers include Jennifer Nelson, Florie Rothenberg, and Philip Tschopp. His goal as an educator is to make music literacy more accessible to a diverse public.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Mr. Bissell enjoys baking, Pokémon collecting, and Star Trek marathons.
