Water and Earth

Srivani Jade will present from a North Indian Classical repertoire of a hundred years or more, with beautiful compositions describing the Indian love story of Water and Earth. The songs are ancient and contemporary, sacred and secular, and composed in various seasonal 'Ragas' or melodies. Often, in traditional Khayal compositions, the Water and Earth relationship is a metaphor for love and longing. The homecoming of the Beloved is eagerly anticipated as are the dark rain clouds bringing monsoon showers to a parched earth. Animals, birds, rivers, mountains, and flowers are companions and witnesses.

Srivani will perform from the Khayal, Thumri and Bhajan genres of Hindustani music. She will sing and narrate to the traditional accompaniment of Tanpura, Tabla and Harmonium.
