A native of Bessemer, Alabama, tenor Gran Wilson established himself internationally as a leading tenor of the ‘Bel Canto” repertoire in a career spanning four decades and four continents as well. He has sung with the New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Australian Opera, Netherlands Opera, L’Opéra de Nice, L’Opéra de Toulon, Vlaamse Oper, Oper Frankfurt, Teatro Galdos Gran Canaria, and L’Opéra de Montreal to name but a few. He has performed with the Boston Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and Trondheim Symphony. He has appeared on CBS Morning News, PBS’s “Live From Lincoln Center” and NPR’s “All things Considered.” His performance as Tamino in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” with the Australian Opera, on Kultur Video, was nominated for an Australian “Emmy.”
Mr. Wilson has taught Master Classes in major universities coast to coast, and is in demand as teacher and performer throughout the mid-Atlantic region while serving as Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Maryland. Washington state audiences have heard him with both the Seattle Symphony, in Handel’s Messiah, and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite, and with the Seattle Opera as leading tenor in L’Elisir d’Amore, La Fille du Régiment, Lucia di Lammermoor, Orphée et Euridice, and The Merry Widow.
Mr. Wilson is delighted to collaborate once again with pianist Rachel Roulet for the first time since both were on faculty at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland.
