Join us in welcoming Briana Reed as a guest artist working with students on an original dance focused on social justice.

Briana Reed was a principal dancer with the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and has worked with other notable choreographers around the globe. Learn more about Briana Reed and the residency.

Briana shares this quote as her ideation for the new piece:

“Social justice… whenever that term is used, I think of the fact that human beings whether they are Black or White feel within themselves that there is the possibility and potential for some kind of happiness and humanness in their lives before they leave this planet called earth and that social justice has to emanate from a government that really believes in human beings, the preservation and conservation of human beings while they are yet alive.” ~Shirley Chisholm

She shares anecdotes from her time being personally coached by Judith Jamison of the Ailey company and the importance of details in all performance. The students are learning her exquisite movement as well as learning from her expertise in the field as a professional dancer and educator.
