One of Mexico's foremost percussionists and a specialist in contemporary percussion music, Iván Manzanilla will present a concert of adventurous solo percussion works by living composers from Mexico and beyond.
Manzanilla's work focuses on the exploration and dissemination of newly created music and art, and his teaching practice and commissions for new works exploring sound, language, and gesture reflect his commitment to new generations of percussionists, musicians, and contemporary art forms. His work has been recognized by various institutions such as the Rockefeller Foundation, the National University of Mexico, the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico, the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, and the Darmstadt Summer School. He is a member of both Duplum, a duo co-founded with Mexican clarinetist Fernando Domínguez, and ÓNIX Ensamble, and is regularly invited to perform with a wide variety of ensembles and orchestras in Mexico.
Manzanilla is the head of the Percussion Department at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, and a 2017 recipient of the National Arts Fund Established Artist Grant.
