Jacob Anderson’s musical journey began with the drumset at the age of seven when he was inspired by rock music and a family friend who played the drums. Jacob continued with 10 years of drumset lessons and performances in his school music ensembles and the Bellingham Youth Jazz Band. After starting his degree program in music performance and music education at WWU, Jacob’s focus and passion shifted to classical, keyboard, and world percussion under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Roulet.
At Western, Jacob has performed in many WWU ensembles including the Western Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Advanced Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, Jazz Big Band and Combos. He has also collaborated with the WWU Concert and University Choirs and the Advanced Treble Chorale. He is a member of the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra and with them has performed works such as Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
Jacob placed 1st Alternate in the WWU 2025 Concerto Competition and has received several scholarship awards from WWU including the Gordon & Alice Fraser Scholarship, the Don C. Walter Memorial Scholarship, Aftermath Club – Fine Art Scholarship, and the WWU Annual CFPA Scholarship.
After completing his studies at WWU, Jacob plans to pursue graduate studies in percussion performance.
