Liz Binnington presents: Duality.
Duality reflects the balance between classical and alternative styles that many musicians grapple with. In collaboration with Rebecca Manalac, Luke Gavin, and the group she founded “Roots Music Group” Liz will be performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, “I’ll Fly Away”, Fords Farm, and Roundtable Rival. Enjoy the performance in a Halloween costume and join the trick-or-treating event during intermission!
Liz Binnington Bio
Liz Binnington is a junior at Western Washington University, where she is earning her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance. She grew up in southern Illinois and participated in the Suzuki program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where her mother taught. Vera McCoy-Sullentic was her private teacher from a young age until Liz moved to Port Orchard, Washington, at the age of twelve. In the South Kitsap School District, she became one of the founding members of the district's orchestra, having played violin in their band program throughout middle school. Alongside her mother, she helped teach elementary school students and eventually founded and directed a middle school orchestra camp during the summer. In her junior year of high school, she began taking lessons from Gayane Grigoryan.
After a series of adventures post-high school graduation, including several concussions, teaching preschool, working at Disney World, and studying with Dr. Margaret Baldridge, Liz transferred to Western Washington University in 2023. During her first year at WWU, she served as concertmaster of the Western Symphony Orchestra, played in the NowHearThis! ensemble, served as the Promotions Officer for the Western Orchestra Players Association, and founded a new club, Roots Music Group.
In addition to her other jobs, she works for Dorothy Smith, managing the social media accounts for the string shop Allegro Strings. This year, she is honored to receive the Dean’s Scholarship for the College of the Fine and Performing Arts, the Ada and Don Walter Endowment Fund, and the Scottish Rite Foundation of Washington Scholarship.
