Four concerts, ten lectures, two workshops, and a roundtable discussion exploring music outside the standard western tuning system.
UnTwelve, WWU, and Sound Culture present the Microtonal Adventures Festival, May 18-20 on the campus of Western Washington University in Bellingham (USA).
This beautiful Pacific Northwest location will serve as the meeting place for a wide variety of xenharmonic practitioners and enthusiasts. The three-day event features concerts and lectures devoted to historical tunings; non-Western music; contemporary chamber, electroacoustic, and pop music; and microtonal theory. Also planned are two hands-on workshops and a roundtable discussion.
Artists and presenters include electronic wizard Elaine Walker, guitarist and author Neil Haverstick, sarod player Brandon McIntosh, early music specialist Jonathan Oddie, composer and Harry Partch scholar Charles Corey, Portland experimental band Mercury Tree, Duotronics (WA), Igliashon Jones (WA), Noah Jordan (BC), Brendan Byrnes (CA), Kite Giedraitis (OR), Stephen Weigel (IN), Christopher Bailey (MA), Aaron K Johnson (IL), Bruce Hamilton (WA), Kole Galbraith & Matt Pollock (WA), Adam Haws (WA), John Platter (WA) and several WWU musicians.
