The WWU Percussion and New Music Ensembles join forces for a thrilling night of Futurist music! First on the program is the visceral Suicide on an Airplane (1916) by the American composer and pianist Leo Ornstein, followed by "Gran Turismo" (2010), Andrew Norman’s violin octet in homage to the race car video game of the same name.
The evening’s main event is the iconic "Ballet mécanique" (1924) by George Antheil. Set for four pianos, eight percussionists, electric bells, and two airplane engines, this wild tour-de-force has lost none of its power or audacity in the 100 years since it was first performed. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear this infamous piece performed live!
