From the studio of Holly Alcorn, Olivia Sutherland, in collaboration with Jacinda Davis, Rachel Roulet, and Mark Davies, will virtually present her Senior Recital featuring works by Paul Williams and Kenneth L. Ascher, Clara Schumann, Manuel de Falla, Luis G. Jorda, and Samuel Barber. Olivia Sutherland is a senior at Western and will be receiving her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance this spring. She has been active as a performer throughout her time at Western, singing as a part of Western's Concert Choir for four years and Western Voices in 2018. She has appeared in several opera scenes and opera productions, portraying a variety of roles, her first in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges as the morose Dragonfly. She enjoyed this production so much that she has never failed to audition for an opera at WWU since. She would go on to play the grumpy nurse, Arnalta, in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea and was cast in 2020 as Hansel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel but, due to the pandemic, was never able to perform. Thankfully Olivia was able to perform one last time with WWU's opera program appearing in a socially distanced production of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld as the mischievous young god Cupid. She greatly appreciates the creative space that WWU has provided her these past four years and looks forward to furthering her education in performance.
