Queercore, or homocore, emerged from a chasm of queens and dykes who related more to the lifestyle and politics of punk than “their” LGBT community, yet felt spurned by punk’s latent homophobia. Through zines, bands, and homespun cinema, an ulterior movement emerged. Dirty Looks assembles a program of explicit shorts from queercore luminaries, including G.B. Jones, Bruce La Bruce, Scott Treleaven, and Vaginal Davis. Programmed by Bradford Nordeen.
Sponsored by WWU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Fund for Excellence, the College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Center for Service-Learning, the departments and programs of Art & Art History, English, Film Studies, Health and Community Studies, and Women Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Pickford Film Center, and the Queens’ Vernacular monthly queer film series.
