Caitriona Cassel will be performing a senior recital in collaboration with Anita Shuller playing piano, and featuring Jacob Lann playing cello. This recital will also include an honors capstone presentation that expands upon the theme of the recital: Women in Classical Music. The recital will include works that have been composed by women, works where the text has been written by a woman (with music composed by a man or woman), and explore different female roles in dramatic works that have been written/composed by men vs. women.

Caitriona Cassel is in her sixth and final year at Western Washington University and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and minors in biology and honors interdisciplinary studies. Caitriona switched to a vocal performance major in her junior year after coming to Western as a Biology Major and starting voice lessons in her sophomore year but has been singing in choir since age twelve and taking piano lessons since age eight. In her time at Western, she has been in the Advanced Treble Choir, University Choir, Concert Choir, and Western Voices. Caitriona has also performed in two Opera Scenes productions and in the productions of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Kurt Weill's Street Scene. This recital and presentation is a culmination of not only her vocal work but also her academic journey so far. Caitriona is going to take the next year as a much-needed gap year after six years of undergrad and use the time to research which graduate schools and programs she is most interested in pursuing in the coming years.
