WWU String Sinfonia
Time and Location
- 2022, Mar 07 Performing Arts Center 155 - Concert Hall
Our concert opens under the baton of guest conductor Johnathon Lyons, who leads the String Sinfonia in a rendition of Arcangelo Corelli’s buoyant Concerto Grosso in B-flat—featuring soloists Petra Ellerby, Olivia Palmer, and Syringa Rose.
Dr. James Ray takes the podium in the orchestra’s performance of two Novelletten by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. A contemporary of Edward Elgar, Coleridge-Taylor was among the most celebrated composers of his day. These Novelletten showcase a range of charm and lyricism perfect for the string orchestra idiom.
The Sinfonia joins forces with WWU Symphony Strings for Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Based on a hymn penned by a 16th century court composer to four English monarchs, Vaughan Williams’s 20th century treatment is as timeless as it is sublime.
