Xaria Siplin is a junior, double majoring in both Vocal Performance and Psychology and is minoring in Creative Writing; she studies with Professor Kathryn Weld. Previously studying at the University of Oregon before coming to Western, she is an active member in Western's Concert Choir and was a previous member of the Advanced Treble Chorale. Xaria has performed for Dr. Richard Hodges in masterclass and has begun learning the harp under the instruction of Professor Jill Whitman since Fall 2021. Outside of ensembles, she is a student member of the music department Restructure and Transform Task Force's Dialogue and Communication subcommittee, which is focused on restructuring the music department's curriculum and environment to amplify marginalized voices and promote both diversity and equity. Xaria is also the current board Vice President and member of the WWU A Cappella club and has performed with the Spectrum Choral Academy of Gig Harbor; both on their tour to Italy in 2015 and to the United Kingdom in 2018, including singing for Joy Hill, a Choral conductor for the Royal College of Music in London. Outside of academics, Xaria is a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and is currently undergoing training to be an instructor of her own studio one day. She is so thankful towards her parents for their support in her academic career, and hopes to continue developing as a solo artist.
