Ensemble Audition Requirements

Read below for audition schedules for Western's many music ensembles. Sign-up sheets for vocalists, string players, and jazz ensembles will be posted on lower level 2 of the Performing Arts Center no later than September 15, 2017. Wind, brass, and percussion players can sign up here and find more information below (see here for required audition materials).

Every Fall we invite all students with prior ensemble experience to audition for placement in one of our major ensembles. These include the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, University Choir, Concert Choir, Advanced Women's Chorale, and our Jazz Bands. When you join an ensemble (with the exception of Viking Band), you are registering for a course, therefore you do receive two credits each quarter (the course is repeatable). In some cases, we can also offer private lessons to students even if they are not majoring or minoring in Music.

If you currently do not own your own instrument, we offer low cost instrument rentals ($40-$45 per quarter); and you will also be assigned a music locker to store your instrument and your music so you don't have to lug it around all day! Contact the main music office (PA 273) for more information. The Performing Arts Center has practice rooms available for students, and these are open for use seven days a week on a first come first serve basis.

Our Fall ensemble auditions are scheduled for September 24 - 26. Classes commence on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
