Performance

BMus Performance Concentration

With an emphasis on high-level performance and pedagogy, students receive comprehensive instruction on their primary instrument, gain a variety of solo and ensemble experiences, and perform two recitals in addition to completing a core set of courses in music theory, aural skills, keyboarding, and music history.

The core music sequence begins with two-years or six quarters of music theory, aural skills, and keyboarding, followed by a full year or three-quarters of music history. Piano students and those with significant piano background are placed into an advanced keyboarding section. After the core music sequence is complete, performance students must complete upper-division courses in music theory, music history, conducting, and pedagogy. Students within the Guitar, Piano, and Voice area will complete additional courses in repertory, accompanying, and diction depending on the area of study. Please see the University Catalog for more detailed course descriptions and information.
