Choral ensembles are open to all WWU students!

To sign up for a live audition, please fill out the Choir Auditions Online Form.
Additionally, please download our 2018-2019 choir letter for information regarding attire and required concert dates.

General Information

Accompanist:
We will supply an accompanist for all auditions. Please be prepared to provide a tempo before starting.
 
Time Commitment:
Students who audition for Concert Choir and Advanced Treble Chorale must commit to the ensemble for the entire academic year. Exceptions are made for mid-year graduates and teaching interns only.
University Treble and University Tenor/Bass choir have a quarterly commitment.
 
Vocal Majors/Minor:
All vocal majors/minors must attend ensemble auditions, even those who are previously registered for University Treble Choir. Students will be placed into a vocal studio through this audition.
 

Registration

All students participating in choir must register for the appropriate course through Web4U.
Once you have been placed into a choir, please email  LeeAnne.Frahn@wwu.edu for an override to register.  Each course is 2 credits per quarter.

Studio Assignments

Voice Majors and Minors:
Studio assignments for students enrolled in applied voice will be made at auditions and will be posted on the board outside PA 43.
Weekly voice master classes are REQUIRED for all students enrolled in lessons.

Audition Requirements

Concert Choir

MUS 471 | MTWRF 12:00-12:50 |  PAC 16
Highly select ensemble of 40-60 singers that performs a variety of challenging choral music from all historical periods.
 
Requirements
  • Two prepared songs
    • Classical art song or aria; one may instead be a classical folksong or classical musical theater selection.
  • Vocalization
  • Pitch Matching
  • Sight Reading

Advanced Treble Chorale

MUS 271 | MTWR 1:00-1:50 |  PAC 16
Highly select ensemble of 30-40 singers that performs challenging choral music from all style periods for treble voices.
 
Requirements:
  • One prepared song
    • Classical art song or aria; one may instead be a classical folksong or classical musical theater selection.
  • Vocalization
  • Pitch Matching
  • Sight Reading

University Treble Choir

MUS 271 | MTW 2:00-2:50 |  PAC 16

A large ensemble that performs women’s repertoire in a variety of styles, as well as mixed-voice repertoire with the University Tenor/Bass Choir.

Singers who would like to perform in this ensemble should come to class on Wednesday, September 27. A vocal diagnostic will be given during class on Wednesday, September 27th for vocal placement in each section. This diagnostic included singing "My Country 'tis of Thee," or a song of your choice, a range test, and a brief sight-reading diagnostic.
