Ceramics students, pottery club support food bank with Empty Bowls

May 3, 2017

WWU Art & Art History Assistant Professor of Ceramics Ryan Kelly, ceramics students, and members of the Pottery Club are all participating in an Empty Bowls event sponsored by Whatcom Artists of Clay and Kiln at Boundary Bay Brewing on Friday May 5.

Participants donate hand-made ceramic bowls to the event organizers. The organizers work with local businesses to host and provide food for the event. Event goers pay $15, and get one of the hand-made bowls, along with a serving of soup. Proceeds go to Bellingham Food Bank.

The bowl that each event goer receives serves as a reminder of the all of the empty bowls in the world.

Coincidentally, the Empty Bowls project was begun by Kelly's high school ceramics teacher.
