Design students participate in paid summer internships

Twelve Design majors recently wrapped up their summer internships and returned to campus to resume their BFA design sequence this academic year. The BFA students are selected through a competitive spring review process and then sent to firms for interviews as part of their placement procedures. At the conclusion of the interviews, the students are individually placed for paid internships for the summer. This year, the program partnered with the following Seattle firms: Disney Parks + Resorts Online, Graphiti, Hornall Anderson, LiveAreaLabs, NBBJ, Ratio, Rational and Smashing Ideas. Indigo Slate in Bellevue, Ten Gun Design of Edmonds, Mount Vernon’s Brandquery and Ben Kinney / Bellingham rounded out the additional firms hiring BFA students this summer.

To augment their internship experience, during the academic year, the students will take seminar courses with full time faculty and complete two workshops taught by industry professionals selected from the Design community. The students will also produce Intern Stories, a publication documenting their internship experience available sometime after the first of the year.

This represents the fifth year of the Design BFA Internship Program – coinciding with the new BFA program in 2013. The faculty mentor for the 2017 internships was Professor Cristina de Almeida.
