Music Chair lectures in China
Music Department Chair Christopher Bianco, D.M.A., is spending two weeks in China lecturing at Chinese universities and speaking with students about how to structure band ensembles into the study of music.
Bianco's trip takes him to Shanghai Conservatory of Music College to present three Master Classes to music students (BA, MA, and Ph.D). He will also travel to Chengdu, the Southwest Jiaotong University and the Sichuan Conservatory Music College, then to Chongqing where he will teach at elementary, middle and high schools, as well as the Music Department of Southwest University.
Southwest Jiaotung University is primarily a science and engineering university, but its adminstration has a keen interest in introducing ensemble music into the curriculum there to facilitate cross-cultural exchange and sensitivity.
Bianco is giving three different lectures during his trip: "Wind Band Conducting and Rehearsal," "The Modern Wind Band," and "Music Education in America." See more pictures and updates from his trip on the Music Department Facebook page.
