Student Saxophonists Clean up at Competition
Members of Fred Winkler's WWU saxophone studio recently competed at the MTNA state competition at Central Washington University. The Equus Saxophone Quartet (Soren Hamm- soprano saxophone, Matt Birmingham- alto saxophone, David Hoogkamer- tenor saxophone, David Decker- baritone saxophone) competed in the chamber music wind division, while Soren and Hoogkamer also competed in the woodwind solo division. The quartet took 1st place, and Hoogkamer and Soren took 1st and 2nd, respectively.
In January, the quartet traveled to Boise, ID and competed against the state competition winners from Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. They placed first in the regional competition, and will continue on to Las Vegas in March for the national competition.
