WWU Music student Sasha Vraspir presented a paper discussing emotional impacts of music on feelings of homesickness and nostalgia at the 2026 annual meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEMNW). The meeting took place February 28 at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Sasha is a double major in Music Education and Musicology at Western.

Sasha's paper, "Music, Homesickness, and Nostalgia," used an interdisciplinary approach with psychological, musicological and technological studies. It explores how music can change relationships with concepts of place and time in positive and negative ways depending on the person and context.
