The Dance Program at WWU educates our students in a physical and intellectual understanding of the language of movement art. In the course of their studies, BA/BFA Dance Majors will learn to understand, perform, create, evaluate, and contribute to contemporary thinking about dance and related arts.

Featuring a rigorous curriculum of contemporary dance, ballet technique, anatomy and kinesiology, partnering for ballet and contemporary dance, dance for the camera, dance history, and in-depth study of choreography and creative process work with faculty and internationally known guest artists; students are immersed in the physical practice and artistic process of technique, performance and choreography.

With multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary study through performances, workshops, and curriculum, WWU Dance students are able to explore collaborations and innovative art making with students from Music, Theatre and Visual Art.

Entry into the BA/BFA is by audition. The BA degree in Dance offers an in depth education in dance technique; contemporary and ballet, performance and choreography, anatomy, dance history and pedagogy. The BFA degree requires recommendation of faculty members and is a highly selective program that trains exceptionally committed, disciplined, and talented students with additional course work in performance and choreography.

WWU Dance fosters thinking artists and artistic thinkers with progressive approaches to physical and creative practice.
