Timothy Fitzpatrick currently serves as Chair of the Music Department. In the past, his contributions to the Music Department have included Director of Choral Activities, Interim Director of Voice Studies, Professor of Choral Music and Vocal Education, Interim Coordinator of Music Education, and collaborative vocal and instrumental pianist. Fitzpatrick has  taught undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting, repertoire, and pedagogy, conducted the Concert Choir, Western Voices, University Treble & Tenor/Bass Choirs, Advanced Treble Chorale, and currently co-teaches WWU Room Sixteen Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Under his direction, the Advanced Treble Chorale was regularly invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Northwest Conference. His Concert Choir and Advanced Treble Chorale each have toured Finland and Estonia.

A versatile musician with many areas of expertise, Fitzpatrick has pursued a career that is supported by outstanding academic achievements and diverse musical endeavors including piano performance and pedagogy, harpsichord studies, collaborative solo and choral accompanying, church music ministry, and popular music arranging and recording. He has studied private voice, and performed in operatic, classical, jazz, Broadway and other popular idioms on the concert stage.   

Professor Fitzpatrick spent a sabbatical year studying choral conducting, pedagogy, and the music of Estonian composers. He worked with Estonia's Tütarlastekoor Ellerhein, and frequently rehearsed and conducted the ensemble. He has been named Honorary Conductor of the Ellerhein choir.  He was also founder and artistic director Director of the Bellingham Chamber Chorale (BCC). Under his leadership, the BCC released recordings, toured the Baltic region, and premiered Baltic Elegies, a commissioned work by Estonian composer, Tõnu Kõrvits.

Professor Fitzpatrick has presented interest sessions at state and regional music conferences and has appeared frequently as adjudicator, clinician, and honor choir director throughout the Northwestern United States and Canada. He has served on the state and regional executive boards the Washington State American Choral Directors Association during the last two decades. Cumulatively, his choirs have toured the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Germany, Poland, and the Baltic States.
