Dance Scholarships

To apply for either the Gutchow and Fox-Clark scholarship

  1. submit a 2-3 page statement in 12-point font, double-spaced that describes:

    • Your career goals in the dance field after graduation. Please include your goals regarding dance education.
    • How your work thus far in the Dance major at WWU supports your goals.
    • Exceptional merit and engagement with the Dance program at WWU. Possible examples include: leadership in technique classes, theory classes, performances, festivals, volunteering at events, supporting other students—give examples, participation in Program events, auditions, master classes, other means of engagement with the program that demonstrates your commitment and leadership.
    • Your financial need: Do you receive financial aid? if so, what portion of your tuition is covered by grants and loans? Work on or off campus? Single parent family? Multiple siblings in college? Other details that demonstrate your financial need.
  2. Also attach a copy of your Academic History. Please note, this must include your current grade point average.

Selection Rubric for Monica Gutchow and Fox-Clark Scholarships

  • Exceptional merit AND engagement with the Dance program (demonstrated skill as mover/thinker/writer, open to feedback, full class participation, leader in WWU dance community) scale of 1 to 4 points
  • Career in dance education (details for long term planning, enthusiasm for pursuing dance education as career, current teaching experience) scale of 1 to 3 points
  • Academic standing GPA: 3.7 to 4/3.4 to 3.6/3.1 to 3.3/2.5 to 3.0, scale of 1 to 4 points
  • Financial need (financial aid, works full/part time, applied for other scholarships) 1 to 3 points

Apply for a Dance Scholarship

Monica Gutchow Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Monica Gutchow, a former WWU Dance faculty member. Two to three scholarships will be awarded to upper-division Dance students who have demonstrated exceptional merit, good academic standing, financial need and an interest in teaching dance at the college level. Scholarship amount: up to $9000, in increments of least $1,000 to $3,000. Award amount depends on number of qualified applicants and endowment balance.

Tabetha Fox Clark Memorial Dance Scholarship

This endowment was created in memory of Tabetha Fox Clark to provide scholarships to deserving students in the College of Fine and Performing Arts Theatre and Dance Department for students studying Dance. Whenever possible, preference will be made to applicants who demonstrate an interest in Dance Education.
