The Western Washington University Alumni Association hosted a Virtual Studio Tour of ceramics professor Ryan Wilson Kelly on February 12.

Ryan W. Kelly is an assistant professor in Western’s Art & Art History Department, teaching ceramics and 3-D foundations. Before coming to to Western, he lived and worked in Philadelphia where he was a resident artist at The Clay Studio, a co-curator at Practice Gallery, and a recipient of the Independence Foundation Fellowship. His collaborations in dance and theater include credits in the Green Porno series by Isabella Rossellini.

Kelly’s training and background are in ceramics. His own work ranges from performance and video to object-based installations. He is grounded in his love for small ceramic sculptures as well as large mixed media sets and assemblages. He draws inspiration from American mythology, historical inaccuracies, and the curious storytelling that finds its way into our material culture and decorative arts. Kelly celebrates the myopic strangeness often preserved in our souvenirs, monuments, and commemorations.
