Dance Statement on Anti-Racism and Resources

The Dance Program at Western is actively engaged in the work to dismantle the systemic racism that is prevalent in the dance field.

We are working to ensure that our curriculum promotes anti-racist systems of learning and offers counter-narratives to the inaccurate depiction of Eurocentric ownership and legacy in dance.

In the words of Brenda Dixon Gottschild, an anti-racist cultural worker, we are committed to "revising the canon of dance history to recognize the contributions of POC." As educators, we recognize the work we have to do.

We know that it is our job to not stand by in silence, but to use our place of privilege and power to actively contribute to equity and a just world for all.
