Dance Scholarships

Monica Gutchow Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Monica Gutchow, a former WWU Dance faculty member. Two to three scholarships will be awarded to upper-division Dance students who have demonstrated exceptional merit, good academic standing, financial need and an interest in teaching dance at the college level. Scholarship amount: up to $8,000, in increments of at least $1,000. (Amount depends on number of qualified applicants and endowment balance).

The Mrs. Carole Hoerauf Scholarship

Two $750.00 scholarships will be awarded to new WWU freshmen who major in Dance.  To be eligible students must be attending Western, have declared the Dance Major, and be placed in Contemporary 1 and Ballet 1 or higher levels.  Awards will be announced in February 2018 and funds will be applied toward Spring quarter tuition.  Applicants should submit a 500 word essay discussing their dance background and career goals.  As part of their application students need to include a dvd (at least 2 minutes in length) of themselves performing a solo that they choreographed.  We are looking for Contemporary technique that demonstrates both creativity and artistry.

Summer Scholarships

These scholarships are intended to assist Dance majors with summer tuition costs.  Applicants must be registered for 3 credits in DNC 221, DNC 321, or DNC 421 for summer 2017, demonstrate exceptional merit, good academic standing and financial need. Scholarship amount: Five scholarships of $500 apiece.

Application process

To apply for a Dance departmental scholarship, please submit the following:

1. Resume of dance experience

2. One page statement addressing:

Your academic goals and academic history within the department
Your post-graduate aspirations
Your merit for a specified scholarships (i.e. financial need, academic history, interest in teaching, contribution to the department)

3. Copy of Academic History (must include current grade point average)

Drop your completed scholarship packet off in the Theatre and Dance Office (PAC 395)

These scholarships are separate from the College of Fine and Performing Arts scholarships. You can apply for CFPA scholarships through the Dean's Office.
