About Tariqa

Tariqa Waters is a Seattle-based visual artist, curator and driving force behind the Pioneer Square exhibition and event space Martyr Sauce.

Waters solo shows include 100% Kanekalon: the Untold Story of the Marginalized Matriarch at the Northwest African American Museum.  She curated the widely acclaimed show Yellow No. 5 at the Bellevue Arts Museum.

She has served as a cultural partner for the Seattle Art Fair, and was a 2020 recipient of the Cornish Neddy Award. Tariqa's striking work takes many forms from installation and sculpture to photography and performance. Her vibrant pop aesthetic and playful larger than life installations explore personal memories and inherited cultural experiences.
