Robert Yerachmiel Sniderman is an artist, poet, and Assistant Professor in Socially Engaged Art at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. He recently served as Visiting Professor at the Institut für Kunst im Kontext at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Sniderman will speak about a series of projects he co -created or -extended while living in Berlin after October 7th. Sniderman writes that his works, Counter-Ruin (2018), Esther’s Willow (2021- ), Luther des Zyklus ئێستا كاتیه‌تی تاڵه‌كان ڕاكێشی دارستانه‌ سووتاوه‌كه‌ بكرێن Now it’s time to pull the threads into the burning forest (2023- ), Do Not Uproot (2023)and We See (2024), “converge traditional cultural forms of remembrance and resilience with timing-specific interventionism” in public spaces in Germany, Poland, and Greece. He uses these works to tell stories and articulate principles, as he puts it, “struggling with others against the entangled, transhistorical conditions of anti-Palestinian, anti-Jewish, and anti-Kurdish regimes of occupation, separation, and annihilation”. Sniderman’s lecture will be followed by a moderated discussion.
