Cynthia Camlin's "Swamp/Garden" at Perry and Carlson Gallery

surreal underwater scene in transparent teals, submerged statuary

“In 2017 I began painting swampy, underwater scenes with Confederate monuments, guns, junked appliances, car parts, treating the swamp as a place where unwanted or shameful things can be pushed out of view. Paradoxically, swimming around and growing on top of the detritus, the plants, trees, fish, and turtles of the paintings tell the story of an ecosystem that feeds on and gives life.” Cynthia Camlin 2021

Camlin's exhibition SWAMP/GARDEN will be at Perry and Carlson Gallery at 508 S First Street in Mount Vernon, WA through June 27, 2021

Preview the exhibition online.

There will be an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. The gallery requires face masks be worn at this time.
