Studio BFA Julie McPheters lands position at Seattle Opera

felted wool masks of hyenas, lizaards, and sheep

Julie McPheters (BFA Studio Art, '15) has been hired by the Seattle Opera as an Assistant Craftsperson. Julie's felted animal heads were exhibited as part of "Escape Routes" - the 2015 BFA Senior Exhibition. She's been painting sets and working on hats and shoes as she learns the ropes of the job.Image removed.

This is a great learning experience for me and the current Craft Master, Lia, teaches me about the Craft trade/industry every chance she gets. She's actually the main reason why I got this opportunity. When I was doing my internship at Seattle Opera back in 2016, I shadowed her on an extra day, and I think I impressed her with my desire to work in Theater Crafts. So when none of the usual people were available, she recommended me for the Assistant Craftsperson position...I'm still doing my artwork, but admittedly more with fibers than with painting. I actually will have some of my 2D needle felting work at Social Fabric for their show "Love for Sale". The show opening will be this Friday Feb 3 during Art Walk.

See more of her work on her website.
