SNAAP Report on WWU

Authoring information

by College of Fine and Performing Arts Staff

The Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) is the largest dataset about people with arts degrees from North American institutions ever assembled. Since 2008, SNAAP has worked with over 300 educational institutions to survey their arts alumni. The results have provided new insights into the educational experiences and careers of graduates from all arts disciplines. This data from the latest survey highlights key findings specific to Western Washington University.

Most of the Western alumni surveyed were females with bachelor degrees (62%) and males with master degrees (50%). The bachelor degree holders were mostly over 25 years old, and the master degree holders were mostly over 50 years old. Their majors, in order of most to least common, were:

  1. Design
  2. Fine Arts and Creative Writing
  3. Theater
  4. Arts Education and Music
  5. Dance and Media Art
  6. Something else

Though they felt mixed about the advising they received and their current connection to Western as alumni, overall they rated their educational experience as highly positive, worthwhile, and recommended. The overwhelming majority of them find their education relevant to their work, and are satisfied with their career.
